Mario will land near a Dry Bones head statue. The pathway ahead goes uphill and is filled with Piranha Plants, Octoombas, and Spiky Plants. Ahead after the pathway, there is a force field around a Yoshi Egg on a nest. A Magikoopa guards the egg. After Mario defeats the Magikoopa, the force field disappears, and the Yoshi Egg can be cracked open to release Yoshi. Just ahead of the egg's nest, are some Berries and enemies Yoshi can eat for Star Bits. There is also a huge volcano, where Mario and Yoshi find the Launch Star. The Launch Star cannot be used until Yoshi eats the giant, gold berry. In the second mission, there is a Lakitu and some Spinies.
There is a warp pad near the volcano on the Main Planet, which Mario and Yoshi can take to warp to the Bonus Planet. There are seven Octoombas here, which Yoshi must eat quickly within a time limit for three 1up Mushrooms. After time runs out, Mario and Yoshi are warped back to the Main Planet.
After using the Launch Star from the Main Planet, Mario and Yoshi will land on this planet where they can pass a Midway Point. It has Item Crystals, insects, and a Chance Cube. One of the Item Crystals reveal a Launch Star, which Mario and Yoshi must take to travel to the next planet.
On this planet, Mario and Yoshi must climb up this tall planet to reach the Launch Star. There are Piranha Plants and Spiky Plants here, which Yoshi can eat. However, he takes a while to swallow them. At the top, there are Octoombas and a Flower Grapple. Using his tongue, Yoshi can swing up to a tiny wooden orb that has the Launch Star. This planet is identical to one of the planets in the Good Egg Galaxy of Super Mario Galaxy, except for a bone-like platform and a few Springboards (Springs).
After using the Launch Star from the Tower Planet, Mario and Yoshi will land on this large planet. There is a Midway Point in front of where the two heroes have landed. Mario and Yoshi can navigate through the planet by jumping between the blocks, using the Flower Grapples, pulling movable blocks, and using the moving platforms. By using the Flower Grapples, Mario and Yoshi can reach the top area, where they will find the Power Star trapped in an Item Crystal. Some new enemies are found here, such as Paragoombas and Scuttle Bugs.
Central Shape Planet
During the second mission, Mario and Yoshi will land on this planet after using the Launch Star on the Main Planet. Here, they can pass a Midway Point. Enemies here include Lakitus and Spinies. There are also two out of three cages which contain Star Bits, which can be broken by having Yoshi eat a Spiny, aim it one of the Star Bit cages and spit it out. There is a Luma trapped in the middle cage. To free it Yoshi must repeat the process he did before with the Star Bit cages (if he has broken the cages already, the process is eat a Spiny, aim it at the middle cage and other cages if you wish, and spit it out). The freed Luma will transform into the Solar System Planets leaving behind a Launch Star. Mario and Yoshi can use it to travel to the Solar System Planets.
Solar System Planets
During the second mission, Mario and Yoshi will land on this planet after using the Launch Star in midair on the Central Shape Planet. This area is a set of planets that are orbiting around each other. Nope, none of them look like the real-life planets, however they act like them. These planets have flat platform containing items such as 1up Mushrooms, Life Mushrooms, Coins, and some Berries. Mario and Yoshi can use the Launch Star in the top center to get to the next planet.
Marble Block Planet
During the second mission, Mario and Yoshi will land on this planet after using the Launch Star on the Solar System Planets. Here, Yoshi must use his tongue to pull out platforms to climb up, and then have Yoshi eat a Spiny, aim at a cage with a Launch Star inside, and spit it out. Then the two can blast off to the next planet. Enemies here include Lakitus and Spinies. There are also Item Crystals containing Star Bits and a Coin. The platforms that Yoshi can pull out contain a 1up Mushroom, Coins, and Star Bits. The Marble Block Planet, hense the name, gets its name because its blocks are made of marble!
This is the last planet of the second mission. It is the only planet in the galaxy with dark, stratus clouds. Giga Lakitu is fought here. Mario and Yoshi will land on this planet after using the Launch Star on the Marble Block Planet. Here, they can pass a Midway Point. Using Yoshi's tongue and the Flower Grapples, the two should swing up to the top area, where Giga Lakitu is fought on. There are two Item Crystals on this planet with Coins inside of them.
Saddle Up with Yoshi
Mario lands on the Main Plane, where there is a Yoshi Egg being protected by a barrier that was created by a nearby Magikoopa. The Magikoopa shoots out Goombas at Mario. After Mario defeats the Magikoopa, the Goombas are gone, and the barrier that protected the Egg is destroyed. After Spinning the Egg, Yoshi will pop out. Mario must use Yoshi to get through the Main Planet. Tons of things to eat are here, and a Comet Medal is found on top of a large lump of grass with a trampoline next to it. After clearing out that area, Mario and Yoshi must travel through the muddy path leading away from the main area of the planet until he reaches a giant, golden Berry. Yoshi must eat that Berry, to make a Launch Star appear. Then the two can use it to blast off to the Earth Planet. This planet is covered in Item Crystals, and has a Midway Point and Chance Cube. After doing all that, Mario and Yoshi can break an Item Crystal to reveal a Launch Star. Then they can blast to the Tower Planet. The Tower Planet has a path that winds up one big mountain. Mario and Yoshi must climb this mountain, while hopping over the roadblocks. Once at the top, there will be one Flower Grapple. Using Yoshi's tongue, will get Mario and Yoshi to a small planet which contains the Launch Star to the Fossil Planet. Once on the Fossil Planet, there will be numerous things like platforms for Yoshi to pull, Flower Grapples, enemies, and moving platforms. Mario and Yoshi must travel through the only path to get to the top and reach an Item Crystal with a Power star trapped inside. After breaking the Item Crystal, there is a small puzzle of Flower Grapples before the Power Star can be reached.

After visiting the galaxy for the second time, Mario will find Spinies and Lakitus in several planets. However he'll also find some cages (not good). To get the Power Star, Mario must make his way to Giga Lakitu. To do so, he has to get Yoshi on the Main Planet and make him eat a Spiny, aim it at a cage and spit it out to reach the Launch Star. The two will blast off to the Central Shape Planet. Here, Yoshi must eat a Spiny, aim it at the middle cage (and other cages if you wish), and spit it out. This will free the Luma trapped inside. He will transform into the Solar System Planets leaving behind a Launch Star. Here, Mario and Yoshi must navigate here with caution, while collecting the Coins, Berries, 1up Mushrooms and Life Mushrooms. After using the Launch Star in the top center, they will land on the Marble Block Planet, a planet made of marble! Here, Mario and Yoshi must make their way to the top, while pulling out platforms. Another cage is here, so Yoshi must eat a Spiny, aim it at the cage, and spit it out. Now they can use the Launch Star to blast off to the next planet. They will land on the last planet, the Cone Planet, which is a dark and spooky area. Giga Lakitu is fought here. Using his tongue, Yoshi and Mario must swing to the top area. Giga Lakitu acts like a normal Lakitu. To damage him, eat a Spiny, aim it at him, and spit it out. Do this three times to defeat him and collect the Power Star. However, be careful, as for on Giga Lakitu's last life, he will shoot lightning from his cloud that instantly kills Yoshi. Once he is defeated, the Power Star is now yours.
