The Wii U is a game console from Nintendo and the successor to the Wii, it was released in 2012 and is the first entry in the eighth generation of video game home consoles. It uses Wii branding and controllers.

The Wii U is the first Nintendo console to support high-definition graphics. The primary controller is the GamePad, which features an embedded touchscreen, used to supplement the main gameplay shown on the TV having a personal screen. Like the Classic Controller, the Wii U Pro Controller can be used for games that need more buttons. The system is backward compatible with Wii, and Wii U games are compatible with certain Wii accessories, such as the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk. The Nintendo eShop could be used to download Wii U games, Wii(Ware) games, and Virtual Console titles.

Because of the Wii U having backwards compatibility with the Wii, it also has the Wii Menu (vWii). Wii Mode at the time had access to the Wii Shop Channel and certain channels when they were supported. The Wii Menu can appear on the GamePad, using it's IR sensors to act as a Sensor Bar. Wii Menu Electronic Manual is in this menu, like the Wii mini does. and the Wii U Menu is in the menu.
